This is a horrible story. A Chinese blogger happened on a confrontation in the central Chinese province of Hubei between city inspectors and villagers protesting over the dumping of waste near their homes. He decided to film the event on his camera-phone. Fifty (yes, you read right, 50) municipal inspectors turned on him and beat him to death. Things are still very, very dodgy in China. Despite all of the hoopla of a growing economy, China is still, in many ways — especially human rights — in the dark ages. I’m completely horrified by this story.
