Idol Gives Back Over $60m
By Susanne Goldstein on May 1, 2007 in The Social Age
As a follow-up to my post on “read The Dawn of The Social Age“, I’m happy to report that Idol Gives Back raised over $60 million for children in the US and Africa. Quick math tells me that that is $2 donated per viewer. Can you imagine what would happen if the SuperBowl and Academy Awards followed suit? Confused? Please be sure to read my original post below.
As for the $60+ million, the money will be managed by The Charity Projects Entertainment Fund
The money for the U.S. will be distributed by CPEF to a number of organizations, including:
- Save The Children
- America’s Second Harvest - The Nation’s Food Bank Network
- Boys and Girls Clubs of America

The money for Africa will be distributed via CPEF to a number of organizations, including:
- U.S. Fund for UNICEF
- Save The Children
- The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria

- Nothing But Nets
You can learn more at CPEF’s website.
The Social Age is about involvement. Whether engaged in volunteer work, helping an old man across the street, on a rescue mission in Tsunami territory or helping to teach kids tolerance — The Social Age is an age where the interdependencies of people is THE essential thread in the fabric of society. In the dawning of The Social Age, we are seeing this inconnectedness in everything that we do. The Industrial Age brought mechanization that allowed society to grow and prosper. The Information Age brought networks for the dispersal of knowledge and the creation of a global society. The Social Age, the age we are moving into now, is the age where humans realize that in this global society our economies are interdependent, our natural resources and water supply are limited, that terrorism is international and that global warming is effecting us all equally. It is only in our united effort that society can continue to grow and prosper.
